Maize network

Managed according to the principles and modis operandi described in the Charter and internal regulatios, the national Collection of the "corn" network includes populations and lines of French origin. It includes genotypes that France is responsible for conserving, especially old cultivars and populations of French origin, synthetic populations, lines in common use, including ones known to have identified genes.

This collection is available for exchange or use. On 1st October 1998, the National Collection included nearly 270 populations of metropolitan French origins : 60 synthetic populations created by INRA laboratories, 50 lines created by INRA laboratories.

The data on corn lines and synthetic populations are found in a database managed by the Unité de Recherches de Génétique et Amelioration des Plantes (Plant Improvement and Genetic Research Unit) at INRA, Montpelier. They are published in a directory accessible in France and abroad. In accordance with a Community work programme (CE regulations no.1467/94), support is given to develop conservation, characterisation and use of genetic resources in liaison with other European partners, (www.ensam.inra.fr/gap/resgen88).
