Managed according to the principles and modi operandi described in the Charter and internal regulations, the National Collection of the "strawberry plants" networks includes various species : cultivated strawberry plants as well as wild relatives and related species. It includes genotypes that France is responsible for conserving, especially French cultivars crossed off the catalogue of French varieties (list Aand B), old cultivars and populations of French origins, original stock derived from collecting-missions in French territories, stock known for the presence of identified genes, genetic curiosities, etc. This collection is available for exchange or use.
- Fragaria diploïdes : F. vesca (5 clones), F. viridis, F. nubicola, F. nipponica, F. mandchonrica, F. bucharica
- F. tétraploïdes : F. orientalis (1 clone)
- F. hexaploïdes : F. moschata (10 clones)
- F. octoploïdes : F. virginiana (3 clones), F. chiloensis (8 clones), F. ananassa (80 cultivars de jours courts et remontants)
- F. décaploïdes : (F. synth.) (3 clones)

What are the network management actions ?

|
 |
Strawberry plant genetic resources are managed in France by a cooperative network of partners : conservators of public or private establishments, representatives of the sector and institutes concerned by the resources. The modus operandi is described in a Charter and internal regulations. The members of the network agree not only to make their genetic resources available and circulate them, but contribute towards maintaining and assessing them too. The management applies to cultivated strawberry plants as well as wild forms and related species.
The objective of the network is thus the long-term management of a National Collection available for exchange or use.
Conservation and storage
1) In vegetative form : Long-term bank used as active bank in the field : stolons, minimum of 3 plants per variety, making 50 stolons available in Autumn.
Back-up bank : meristem culture in vitro.
2) By seeds : for homozygotic Fragaria ; dried, bagged seeds, at +1°C (refrigerator).
Regeneration
In vegetative form : every 2 to 3 years from the meristem of 3 plants.
Distribution
Every 5 plants per variety (as from October when plants are dormant),
Or 10 plantlets derived from meristem culture.
Evaluation and characterisation of genetic resources
The conservators conduct the evaluations and characterisations laid down according to the programmes approved by the network.
Database designed congruent with UPOV's descriptors for strawberry plants and harmonised with the European network.
