Managed according to the principles and modi operandi described in the Charter and internal regulations, the National Collection of the "fodder and lawn plants" network includes various species : cocksfoot or orchard grass, fescues, lucernes, ray-grass, as well as wild relatives and related species. It includes genotypes that France is responsible for conserving, especially French cultivars crossed off the catalogue of French varieties (list A and B), old cultivars and populations of French origin, original stock derived from collecting-missions in french territories, stock known for the presence of identified genes, genetic curiosity, etc.
This collection is vailable for exchange or use.
On 1st October 1998, the National Collection included 31 species from essentially two resources : private and public plant breeders for crossed-off cultivars ; in situ collection of ecotypes. Persons to contact :
- Lolium : François Balfourier, INRA : balfour@clermont.inra.fr
- Other grasses : Claude Mousset, INRA : cmousset@lusignan.inra.fr

The National Collection includes the following species of grass and legume : Agrostis stolonifera, Dactylis glomerata, Festuca arundinacea, Festuca cinerea ou duriuscula, Festuca pratensis, Festuca rubra, Lolium multiflorum, Lolium perenne, Phleum bertoloni, Phleum pratense, Poa pratensis, Lathyrus heterophyllus, Lathyrus latifolius, Lathyrus sativus, Lathyrus sylvestris, Lathyrus tuberosus, Medicago aculeata, Medicago arabica, Medicago disciformis, Medicago littoralis, Medicago murex, Medicago orbicularis, Medicago polymorpha, Medicago praecox, Medicago rigidula, Medicago sativa, Medicago truncatula, Onobrychis vicifolia, Trifolium repens, Trifolium pratense, Vicia sativa.
The data on fodder and lawn plant resources are found in a database (Rgfour) centralised at the Valette site of GEVES. They will be published in a directory accessible in France and abroad.
Part of the National Collection is part of ECP/GR (European Cooperative Programme for the Conservation and Exchange of Genetic Resources), coordinated by the IPGRI. The data characterising European lucerne genetic resources are available on the IPGRI server.
