Vegetable cruciferae network

Managed according to the principles and modi operandi described in the Charter and internal regulations, the National Collection of the "vegetable crucifers" networks includes various species : the Brassica (oleacera, rapa) of the vegetable cultigroups (headed cabbages, cauliflowers, broccoli, turnip rape, Raphanus), as well as wild and forage relatives, and related species. It includes genotypes that France is responsible for conserving, especially French cultivars crossed off the catalogue of French varieties (list A and B), old cultivars and populations of French origins, original stock derived from collecting-missions - in the wild and among vegetable producers and users - in French territories, stock known for the presence of identified genes, genetic curiosities, etc.

The collection is available for exchange or use.
On 1st October1998, the National Collection included :

  • Headed cabbage : 100 populations,
  • Cauliflower : 300 populations,
  • Brussel sprout : 13 populations,
  • Turnip : 35 populations,
  • Radish : 60 populations,
  • Fodder kale : 350 populations,
  • Swede : 100 populations.

The Brassica olercea species is well represented, especially for the cultigroups in which French diversity is particularly significant.
The data on vegetable crucifers resources are found in a database centralised at the Rennes INRA, consisting mainly of data from the Rennes INRA ENSA.

The National Collection is part of ECP/GR (European Cooperative Programme for the conservation of Genetic Resources), coordinated by the IPGRI. The data characterising European Brassica genetic resources are available on the European Bras EDB database, which may be consulted on the ECP/GR site.
In accordance with a Community work programme (CE regulation no.1467/94, adopted by the Council on 20th June 1994), support is given to develop conservation, collection and use of genetic resources, in liaison with other European partners as from 1999.
