The Bureau des Ressources Génétiques is a governmental organization created by the Authorities as a specific structure for developing and conducting national policy on animal, plant and microbial genetic resources, for allowing the various stakeholders involved to consult each other and for collecting the expertise needed in this field at the national and international level.


It come together within one scientific body the following organizations :

the Ministry in charge of Research,
the Ministry in charge of Industry,
the Ministry in charge of Agriculture,
the Ministry in charge of Environment,
the Ministry in charge of Overseas Territories,
the Ministry in charge of Cooperation,
l'Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) [National Institute for Agronomic Research],
the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (MNHN) [National Museum for Natural History],
le Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) [National Center for Scientific Research],
l'Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) [Institute of Research for the Development],
le Centre de Coopération International en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD) [Center for International Cooperation in Agronomic Research for Development],
le Groupement d'Etude et de Contrôle des Variétés et des Semences (GEVES) [Group for the Study and Monitoring of Varieties and Seeds],
l'Institut Français de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la Mer (IFREMER) [French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea].
